A Licensed Professional Here to Guide You

Cheryl Sexton is a Licensed Marriage and Family Therapist who owns a private practice in Chandler, Arizona. Cheryl knew from a very young age that she wanted to be a Marriage and Family Therapist because she has always had a passion to learn about making family and marital relationships stronger.

Cheryl studied at Arizona State University, where she earned her Bachelor’s Degrees in Psychology and Family and Human Development, with a minor in Gender Studies. In applying for graduate school, Cheryl specifically chose to apply for programs where the primary emphasis was on couples and family work. She graduated in 2008 from ASU with her degree in Marriage and Family Therapy and with a certificate from the LGBTQ Capstone Experience. For ten years throughout undergraduate and graduate school, Cheryl engaged in work at the local suicide prevention center, where she was able to learn crucial skills about working in the mental health field. She also worked for and eventually supervised other therapists at an agency whose work involved youth on probation and parole. The work was conducted in client’s homes, it was intensive, and it was evidenced-based. Cheryl also worked as a Director for an inpatient substance abuse hospital in their crisis unit where clients were assessed for mental health risk in emergent situations. She also taught Human Sexuality at the University of Phoenix.

Before opening her practice, Cheryl was also a Supervisor at the local refugee resettlement agency, where she supervised and worked directly with clients who had significant trauma and loss histories.

Cheryl opened the doors to her private practice in 2013. She is as passionate today as the day she started working at the suicide prevention center. She loves working with clients who are ready to make changes in their relationships and in their individual growth. She has helped hundreds of families over the years to connect with their partners, children, extended family members, and friends in a more intentional way. She is passionate about the possibility of people experiencing deep, meaningful connections and overcoming obstacles to success in those relationships. She loves helping parents to achieve the structure and predictability in their homes that they and their children crave. In addition, she loves working with LGBTQA+ clients to identify, advocate for and find support around their own needs and experiences. Please contact Cheryl if you have any questions or if you would like to set up an initial session.
